January 1 Again

It is January again. Vacation days may not really be the most practical time to establish good goals since I am not in the middle of life's hectic pace and many demands. I come to the same place I was last year, but without the achievements I expected. Yet, that might be the point of greatest growth...not "I" but, Him. God is the one who has the plans for me that will help me. It is through His word that we can be fully equipped. The well-designed runner's shoe is designed with the runner in mind. His armor is designed for us to overcome life's battles. Remember Paul's directive, "Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." I will set myself to "be able to test and approve what God's will is..." (Romans 12:2)

I am not selling any berries!

I am not selling any berries! The kindergartners affectionately know me as the “li-bary-teacher”. Yet, my role as the school library media specialists supports so much more than story-time for these newbies to the school system. I am an essential member of the schools leadership team as we disaggregate student data. I am specially prepared and well-informed in technology and best teaching practices. “Library media specialists empower students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information,” says Sara Kelly Johns, president of the American Association of School Librarians (AASL). I work with teachers, instructional coaches and administrators to help students succeed.

As I am beginning my Bible through the year readings I discovered 2 helpful sites. One is the Bible Checklist. It is an online checklist of all the chapters in the Bible. It tracks the number of chapters completed and calculates the percentage of the Bible that you have completed to date.
The other is helpful for those of you that want to memorize scripture. The verses are set to melody at Bible Melody. As you repeatedly sing the song, the verse eventually becomes memorized.
Have a blessed visit with God!

How Strong Women Pray - Week 1

Bonnie St. John - How Strong Women Pray
Author Bonnie St. John writes of the contributors to HSWP:
“Despite their differences, their prayer lives were similar. They prayed anywhere and everywhere: in cars, bathrooms, beds, gyms, planes, and more. They talked to God in normal words, sometimes even out loud.”
I’ve learned that prayer is simply the desire to be closer to God. God is always there for us, reaching out to connect. We are the ones who turn away, get busy, and tune out God. Prayer is what brings us back into alignment — into oneness — with God.”
The first story is about Heather Whitestone McCallum, Miss America 1995, who is hearing impaired. She describes her prayer life as a daughter climbing into her Father's lap. The first section of the book is how we face storms. I was encouraged by her testimony about how she prayed for her friend who was diagnosed with cancer.
"I decided that God was in charge of her life... I sat down and said, " My friend has cancer. I don't know what Your plan is for her life. I trust Your decision and I ask You to give her a peaceful feeling about whether she will live or die soon.'"
Her challenge verse is Jeremiah 29:11 (KJV)
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you,
saith the Lord,
thoughts of peace, and not of evil,
to give you an expected end.

"I come to You and ask You to guide me and give me the courage and comfort to take one step at a time. Please keep me in Your arms like a baby and help me to change myself for the better. I trust this Bible verse you gave me" (McCallum, H.)
What do you pray for when you are in the midst of a life storm?
